Halal Love goes behind the curtain and into the homes and bedrooms of observant Muslims to show that, yes, there is love (and sex) behind the hijab. It presents several separate but interconnected stories in which ordinary people living in Beirut try to manage their lives and desires without breaking any of their religion’s rules. It’s a lively, enjoyable farce that Egypt-based writer-director Assad Fouladkar made with obvious affection for his characters and former hometown.
